Mobile Crisis Services Now Respond Around the Clock
DETROIT, MI – Aug 27, 2024 – The Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) mobile crisis service vans are now on the streets of Detroit and Wayne County 24/7/365, responding to individuals in crisis. This program provides access to immediate care where and when people need help the most, during a crisis.
“We are pleased to have a full complement of clinicians and peers dedicated to crisis calls,” said DWIHN Interim President and CEO Manny Singla. “Offering immediate community-based intervention, resources to help reduce or prevent the need for care in a more restrictive setting,” said Singla.
DWIHNs mobile crisis units are staffed by a master’s level Clinician and Peer Support Specialist who assists the child or adult through the crisis providing de-escalation and crisis intervention services, connecting people with the appropriate behavioral health providers and resources.
Since inception in December of 2023, Mobile Crisis teams have responded to almost 650 calls, providing individuals support and access to care. The program has gradually expanded in phases, not only to build staffing, but to ensure quality service.
The new mobile crisis hotline, 844-IN-CRISIS (844-462-7474), provides increased accessibility to DWIHN services for anyone in the Wayne County area regardless of insurance status. “Calling this number will get you, a family member, or a loved one connected to a mental health professional to get the help needed right away and get a mobile crisis unit to your location more efficiently,” said Singla.
The DWIHN Access to Care 24/7 Helpline at 800-241-4949 will continue to serve as the main number for individuals to access all behavioral healthcare services provided in the Wayne County Provider Network. Should a caller have a crisis, they will also be routed to the 844-IN-CRISIS dispatch for a unit to visit and provide direct care.
