DWIHN Offers Trauma Related Resources for Students, Parents, Teachers, & First Responders

A school shooting or suicide is a heartbreaking event that leads to tragic loss of life of our beloved children and teachers.  These incidents are extremely frightening experiences and the days, weeks, and months following can be very stressful. DWIHN has been a resource serving all of Wayne County and beyond, during crisis events that impact our communities.

Georgia School Shooting

On September 4, 2024, a mass shooting occurred at Apalachee High School near Winder, Georgia, United States. Two students and two teachers were killed, while nine other people were injured. DWIHN provided a statement of support and directs all local residents who may be impacted to take advantage of our programs, resources, supports, and services.

MSU Shooting

On Monday, February 13, 2023, a mass shooting occurred in two buildings on the campus of Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing. Three students were killed and five others injured. DWIHN was on standby and provided support to Wayne County residents who were affected.

Uvalde, TX

The Uvalde school shooting was a mass shooting on May 24, 2022, at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, United States, where 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, a former student at the school, fatally shot 19 students and 2 teachers, while injuring 17 others. DWIHN was on hand to support any and all local residents who may have been connected to individuals in this incident. 

Oxford HS

The senseless tragedy at Oxford High School the afternoon of November 30, 2021 has impacted us all in some way. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been directly impacted by this incident. It brings home the importance of working together, in support of our children and each other. DWIHN provided supports to families and hosted a special "Let's Talk About It" Virtual Town Hall Meeting with leadership and clinicians to help all impacted navigate this tragedy and others. 


DWIHN Services

For any incident of this nature Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network’s (DWIHN) team is prepared to offer grief counselors to students, families, teachers and first responders who have been affected by this incident. Trained staff are skilled at helping to identify individuals who have experienced loss, stress, anger, isolation, hopelessness, anxiety, depression, substance use disorders and need to talk about their feelings. DWIHN is available for support and have a wide range of services available:
