Betty's Story

Betty's Story

Betty arrived at STEP in 2014 with a history of being discouraged. A former employer had difficulty accommodating her and she found her hours reduced, which made it not profitable to remain employed there.

She initially worked in production/manufacturing at Services To Enhance Potential (STEP) and initially, was very reluctant to work in the public due to her past experience. After a year or so and a lot of encouragement, Betty agreed to assist with setting up the STEP Dearborn Heights Thrift Store and Donation Center. She quickly progressed to becoming a store associate and last year she became employed at Greenfield Village in the café!

Unfortunately, Betty was only at Greenfield Village for a short time before her position was put on furlough due to COVID-19. However, in August of 2020, she applied for a job at Burger King and was hired. Despite only being there a couple months, she has taken very well to the job. Betty works part time performing cleaning and other duties, which are even more necessary during this time.

Betty lives independently and drives herself to work. She has a significant other, a puppy and a father whom she takes care of. Betty is efficient and professional and is always wanting to get the job done.
