Barry Blackwell

Barry Blackwell is currently serving as the Manager of Community Relations at Henry Ford Health - a position he has held since March 2021. Here he developed and implemented community engagement strategies to introduce the system’s major projects including the Henry Ford Health Main hospital campus expansion and research center with MSU.

Before his time with HFHS, he served under then Council President Mary Sheffield as her Director of Community Relations from January 2013 to March 2021. In this director role, Barry Blackwell addressed community needs such as affordable housing and crime, while leading initiatives in community development. Prior experience includes serving as a Senior Advisor, providing operational support to Council Member Mary Sheffield and acting as a liaison with community members.

Barry Blackwell earned a Bachelor of Public Affairs with a focus on Urban Studies/Affairs from Wayne State in 2019 and a Master of Public Administration from Central Michigan in 2024.
