Access to Services
Access to Services
The Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network is responsible for oversight of the DWIHN Access Call Center, which provides access to quality integrated healthcare to the residents of Wayne County. The DWIHN Access Call Center is managed by professional staff with many years of experience in behavioral health, substance use, crisis, and customer service-related concerns.
The Access Call Center ensures appropriate access to behavioral health services and crisis management. The Access Call Center and Crisis Services department work in collaboration with other departments and providers to ensure access to DWIHN’s full array of services as well as the Crisis Continuum Service System.
Access to services is for Wayne County residents who:
- have an intellectual/developmental disability,
- mental illness,
- children with serious emotional disturbance,
- and/or individuals with substance use disorders.
Screening
Screening to determine how DWIHN can meet your needs can be done at an emergent, urgent, or routine level.
- Emergent Calls: The Access Call Center will identify if an individual is at risk of physical injury to themselves or another individual, at risk of suicide, dangerous behaviors, bizarre behaviors, has delusions or hallucinations. Calls will be warm transferred to the crisis line.
- Urgent Calls: The Access Call Center Clinician / Substance Use Specialist will identify if the individual was previously diagnosed with a Serious Mental Illness, Developmental Disability or Serious Emotional Disturbance and has been without medication and beginning to show signs of decompensation, not in imminent danger to self or others but may become emergent without prompt treatment, is in significant distress or has been released from the hospital (inpatient or crisis) and needs to be seen immediately to ensure stabilization. The Access Call Center will attempt to schedule an appointment for the same day and/or may warm transfer to the crisis line.
- Routine Calls: The Access Call Center will collect demographic information, then provide screening, linkage to a provider, and referrals for persons seeking access into the public behavioral health system.

The Access Call Center is also the general Information and Referral source for individuals living in Wayne County. 1-800-241-4949.
